Be Honest
By: Daniel Jo

I’m sure all of us were taught from a young age to be honest with the people around us, and most importantly, with ourselves. But take this time to reflect: have you ever been honest to God? Have you confessed your sins to Him? As followers of Christ we need to understand that sin separates us from having a relationship from God, revival and breakthrough. However we also need to remember that Jesus made a way for us to return to God through His death and resurrection.
Even though we’ve been forgiven for our sins, it sometimes doesn’t feel like that and oftentimes we carry that shame and guilt from our sinful actions. That’s where this verse comes in:
“But if we confess our sins to Him, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.”
1 John 1:9 (NLT)
This verse reminds us that when we confess our sins to God, He is faithful to forgive us. Our forgiveness is not based on our own faithfulness but on God’s. He is faithful and cannot lie; we can trust Him to forgive and purify us from everything that keeps us from Him. Therefore, we do not need to live under the weight of our own guilt because the truth is that we have been set free in Christ. This forgiveness should empower us to continue to live righteous and faithful lives with God.
Now take this moment to reflect and ponder on these two questions: Is there anything that you need to confess to God right now that is hindering your relationship with Him? How can you continue to trust and have faith that you are forgiven even when it doesn’t feel like it?
Prayer:
God, I’m sorry for failing to realize that I’ve been forgiven by the blood of Jesus and for not trusting in Your faithfulness to me. I sometimes fail to love You with all my heart, my mind, and soul. Please forgive me, God. Transform my heart and renew my mind so that I can draw closer to You.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
