Building An Authentic Relationship With God

Pure by Abbie Gamboa and Upperroom
Coming back to just me and You
Just a heart song singing out of tune
I remember the simplicity
Just to feel You here was everything
Stunned by Your beauty
This is my offering
Not for anything that I could gain
Just to honor You and bring You praise
Like a fragrance broken on the floor
May my worship be pure
There's no motive, there's no hidden catch
Here's my all and I don't want it back
Like a fragrance broken on the floor
May my worship be pure
Find me like a child again
Full of wonder, full of innocence
Before anythin' got in the way
Any dream or any accolade
Pure thanks, pure praise
Nothing in the way
My heart, my love
This is all You want
Oh, Jesus, this is for You
Oh, Jesus, this is only for You
And it's all about, all about You, all about You
And it's all about, all about You, all about You
And it's all about You
This song reminds us of the simplicity of returning to Him when it's just us and Him. Being right next to Him is all He desires. Beyond the successes, beyond the ministry, beyond our requests to Him, being there with Him is worth more than anything. Have we been coming to Him with a pure heart that only longs for Him, and in all that we do, do we seek to glorify His name? Our heart position matters more than what we do for Him.
And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me.”
Matthew 18:1-5
Indeed, just as purity in human relationships ultimately aims to honor God, purity of heart is grounded in seeking His glory above all else. Establishing a pure relationship with God demands repentance from idolizing purity or any other facet of the relationship. It necessitates surrendering our desires and priorities to God, recognizing His ultimate authority and sovereignty. A crucial aspect is understanding purity through a biblical lens, acknowledging our inherent sinfulness, and relying on Christ's righteousness for true purity. Scriptures like Psalm 51:5 and 1 Corinthians 1:30-31 underscore the importance of Christ's purity being imputed to us.
True purity originates from the heart, not merely from external behavior. God works within us to cultivate purity in our hearts, and this inner transformation reflects in our actions and relationships. It requires a daily commitment to coming to Him and spending quality time in His presence. This aligns with verses like Matthew 15:19 and Ezekiel 36:26-27, highlighting the significance of inner purity. God guides us to seek community, such as COOL, with fellow believers who share our commitment to purity. This community provides support and encouragement on our faith journey.
In summary, cultivating a pure relationship with God and maintaining a pure heart for Him involves recognizing His central role, engaging in repentance, grounding ourselves in biblical truth, experiencing heart transformation, and seeking a godly community. It's a journey marked by surrender, growth, and reliance on God's grace and guidance. My prayer is for all of us to have a fresh and profound encounter with Him, understanding that it is both enjoyable and beautiful.
