Day 7

Day 7

Godeliva & Michelle

Heart of Obedience 🤍

Our human nature makes it easy to be swayed and led astray from obeying God. Many factors, such as habitual behaviour and the allure of instant rewards, can tempt us to take the easier path of disobedience. This can lead to feelings of shame resulting in us distancing from God, as we may perceive ourselves as unworthy of His mercy.

Although we know that reading His words, prayer, praise, and worship are essential for obedience, we often struggle to maintain consistency when faced with tangible commitments and rare opportunities.

James 1:22-25 reminds us not to be mere hearers of the word but doers. This verse reminded me of what Ps. Budi mentioned in one of his sharings. Some people tend to seek sermons that are nice to hear, things that THEY want to hear, not what GOD has to say.

In the same way, sometimes it is hard for us to let go of things we need to let go of, finding 1001 ways to convince not only ourselves but the people around us that we are making the right decision.

So, how can we maintain obedience without second-guessing our decisions?☺️

This is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome. For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world — our faith

(1 John 5:3–4)

Obeying God requires a heart posture that sees His commandments as something not burdensome. We obey not because we have to, but it should overflow from our love for Him.

Our faith, through being born again in Him, should be the foundation in overcoming worldly obstacles to obey Him.

Often times the hardest part of obeying God isn’t about starting, but continuing. As scary as it may seem to take the first step, after a while as things become more familiar, we sometimes tend to control things in our own way.

To sustain our walk in obedience, it requires us to continually seek His heart, spending time in His presence and submitting ourselves humbly before Him - even when things seem going well.

Ask yourself❓

When has God nudged or called me to do something, how have I responded? Has the pattern of my life been having more obedience or disobedience?
