Worshiping a false god in your life?

“Hear, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord is one [the only God]! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and mind and with all your soul and with all your strength [your entire being].

The term 'worship' is not uncommon in our life. However, do we truly understand the meaning of worship? According to the online dictionary, worship (verb) means to show reverence and adoration. In Christianity, worship is often used to describe the musical aspect of the church service (i.e. in NXGN, we refer to it as praise and worship). It's not that these are incorrect, but they don't represent the whole picture. Worship is not about music; it is a heart posture. You could be standing in NXGN, raising your hands during PW sessions, but without reverence and the right heart position, you're just singing. The PW session becomes just another karaoke session.

‘This people honors Me with their lips, But their heart is far away from Me.'

Matthew 15:8

Jesus quoted a passage from Isaiah, emphasizing the importance of genuine worship and the condition of the heart. He draws attention to the need for authentic worship and sincerity. Words without genuine love and obedience to God are insufficient.

On any given day, we direct our adoration and devotion to something (or someone). It could be our studies, careers, a hobby, a drive to learn more, or even the feeling of being in love or recognized. There are things that might be trying to take the top priority in your heart or life, and typically, we worship what is at the top of that list.
